Safe, Reliable Offshore Operations
We have major positions in some of the world’s most significant conventional offshore basins – the UK North Sea, West Africa and Gulf of Mexico. From Europe to Africa to North America, our conventional business forms the heart of our current production and cash flow as well as some of our best prospects going forward.
UK North Sea
Nexen is one of the largest oil producers in the UK North Sea. We’ve more than doubled our proved reserves in the North Sea since 2004 and continue to actively explore in the region.
Golden Eagle was one of the biggest oil discoveries in the region since 2004, and first oil production was achieved on October 30, 2014. Nexen is the operator and holds a 36.5% interest in the Golden Eagle Area Development.
Our deepwater Usan oil development project offshore Nigeria came on-stream in 2012. We are now actively exploring the region for future development projects.
Gulf of Mexico
Nexen is one of the largest leaseholders in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, considered one of the world’s most significant oil and natural gas basins. While our current business is relatively small, we’re actively exploring prospects with a primary focus on developing deepwater reservoirs.
Trinidad & Tobago
Nexen manages a 12.5% working interest on behalf of CNOOC Limited in the 2C Block (oil) and a 12.75% interest in the 3A Block (natural gas) of the Greater Angostura development, 37 km offshore east of Trinidad and Tobago. The operator is BHP Billiton.
