Fort McMurray - A Great Place to Live
Watch this video to learn why Fort McMurray, Alberta is a great community with lots to offer.
- We offer challenging careers with the opportunity to pioneer new technologies. Working at Long Lake provides an opportunity to be at the cutting-edge of Canada’s dynamic oil sands industry. Nexen helped develop the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) in-situ technology that is now unlocking 80% of the oil sands reserves buried too deep to be mined. Long Lake is pioneering gasification technology, which uses an oil sands by-product (asphaltenes), and transforms it into an energy source for our operations, thereby reducing our reliance on natural gas. This technology allows us to get the most energy out of every barrel of bitumen.
We are a part of a rapidly growing global energy phenomenon. As the world’s conventional resources decline or become less accessible, Canada’s oil sands will play an increasingly critical role in supplying the energy growing economies require. Nexen is a significant landholder in what is the world’s third largest oil reserve. Long Lake is just the first phase in a multi-stage, decades-long commitment to responsibly develop this vital resource base. By working here, you have the opportunity to be in on the ground floor of a rapidly growing energy phenomenon.
We work in a collaborative workplace with strong room for individual growth. Long Lake is big enough to provide significant opportunity for career advancement, and small enough to ensure you get recognized for the work you do. Our work teams are designed to enhance collaboration, generate new ideas and encourage creative problem solving. Long Lake’s managers and employees work together to map out a plan for career growth and development — one that maximizes an individual’s potential and contribution to our company.
We are connected to our communities. Nexen is strongly committed to giving back to the communities where we work. We invest in non-profit, community-driven initiatives that build capacity in the Wood Buffalo region. Our employees are active as volunteers in local sports, educational and charitable organizations. As a responsible energy developer, we fairly and openly engage with local stakeholders and strive to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. It’s how we earn our social license to operate and grow.
We provide competitive compensation and benefits. We know our employees want a healthy work-life balance while providing financial security for themselves and their families. Nexen recognizes the Wood Buffalo region is an expensive place to live and so we ensure the compensation programs for our Long Lake employees are highly competitive and based on pay-for-performance. Our comprehensive benefit, savings and pension programs provide value and flexibility to employees and their families.
