Nexen employees are proud to support the communities where they live and work. When opportunities arise to give back, members of our Long Lake team are always ready and willing to step up to the challenge. A perfect example is their recent contribution to the Fort McMurray Salvation Army.

Many of the Long Lake East and North camp rooms were equipped with televisions and refrigerators. Following the closure of the camp, the site services team elected to donate the used – but still perfectly serviceable – equipment to the Fort McMurray Salvation Army.

“We recognize the importance of giving back to our community,” notes Len Hodgson, Manager of Site Services at Long Lake. “It’s the simple comforts that we take for granted and I’m happy to know that these items will be put to good use.”

The Fort McMurray Salvation Army provides social services including community and family services, emergency and disaster support, and emergency beds and mats. Proceeds from their thrift store go toward services such as food, shelter, frontline assistance to families and individuals and other community programs.

Nexen’s donation will support several areas within the Fort McMurray Salvation Army including:

  • the “Housing First” program that assists those in shelters or living on the streets by providing housing support,
  • the Family Services Centre, and
  • the Salvation Army Thrift Store which reinvests profits into the community.

“The Salvation Army always appreciates Nexen for their support in helping others,” says Joan Nobles, Program Manager at the Fort McMurray Salvation Army. This donation reflects Nexen’s longstanding goal to be a good neighbor in regions where we operate.
